Ms Long Legs

Success was soon knocking on Uma's doors. After the works in Johnny Be Good and Kiss Daddy Goodnight, she starred in Terry Gilliam's The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. The director was pretty impressed with her persona and had this to say about her. "She looks as though she floated down from the clouds". The next project was even bigger. This was Stephen Frears's Dangerous Liaisons, which saw her in the heavy duty company of Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer.

The movie was a huge success at the box office as well as the Oscars, where it was nominated as best film, bringing nominations also to Close and Pfeiffer. Uma, although not nominated for Oscars, won plenty of praise for her astute professionalism from one and all, in particular from her co star Malkovich, who said of her, "There is nothing twitchy teenager-ish about her, I haven't met anyone like her at that age. Her intelligence and poise stand out. But there's something else. She's more than a little haunted".
